In
Nha Trang city, the National Administration of Tourism (under Ministry of
Culture, Sports and Tourism) organized a professional training courses for
more than 70 tour guides from the southern central coastal provinces.
During the class, the attendants will be fostered useful knowledge about the
history, culture, economic situation of Vietnam society, political system
and the tourism amendments, knowledge of the tourism industry, popular
destinations, attitude towards tourists and communication skills with
visitors; business travel presentation...
In addition, members attending the course also have a chance with practice
sessions at the famous tourist spot in Nha Trang like Ponagar Tower,
Institute of Oceanology, Provincial Museum. Training courses will end on 17
August.
Tran Anh Tuan, deputy director of the forecast Center for manpower needs and
labor market information in Ho Chi Minh city said the tourism industry is in
a state of both supernumerary and shortage. Most want to work in the office
such as ticketing, operations, however lack tourism skills like cultural and
history knowledge and foreign languages, especially scarce languages like
German, Korean, Japanese, Spanish
According to survey statistics in
Ho Chi Minh city, the biggest city in
Vietnam, there are more than 50 schools specialized in tourism training,
meeting only 60% of demand. Only 6 out of 10 travel companies find suitable
staff, of which the positions in need is tour advisors, travel program
designers, marketing and promotion. However the number of tour guide still
fall short of demand.
According to Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, every year the
whole industry needs to add nearly 40,000 employees, but the amount of
students graduating from specific faculties only account for about 15,000
people each year, of which just over 12% have college degrees, university or
higher. Many travel guides who have had long-term training in universities
and colleges...but when employed most tour companies have to retrain or
supple additional skills, foreign language.
