Cruise operators in
Ho Chi Minh City now have two more months to find an alternative dock
before the city's main tourist wharf, Bach Dang, is shut down for upgrades.
Bach Dang was first
slated for closure on January 1, but the closing time was pushed to January
15, then the end of the month, and now to the end of March, news website
Saigon Times Online reported Wednesday.
A cruise operator's representative was quoted as saying that the latest
adjustment would give them more time, and allow them to operate during Tet,
the Vietnamese Lunar New Year holiday that falls in February.
It would probably be the last delay, the representative said, adding that
local cruise operators were urgently seeking new places.
Around 40 boats currently operate along Bach Dang, which sees thousands of
tourists a day.
The wharf is possibly the only place in the city where cruisers have been
providing city river tours and river dining services.
